Whether you would like to visit one of the historic producers or a small, family run winery, every bottle contains the rich history and tradition of wine making which has flourished in this region for hundreds of years.
Our Rome Tuscany Day Tours in world famous Brunello wine region, the so called Orcia Valley, begins from your hotel in Rome, where you will be picked up by our expert driver guide. On this small group day tour from Rome, you will visit one of the most beautifull parts of Tuscany country, Orcia Valley, included the Unesco World heritage since 2004, togheter with some among the most anchanting mediaval and renaissance villages of Tuscany, home to some of the most famous Italian wines.
Our first stop will be Montepulciano, typical mediaval Tuscan hilltown where the “vino nobile” (noble wine) – the first Italian wine awarded in 1966 with the DOCG certification – has been produced since the VIII century AD. Scrolling around the narrow alleys, while you can admine one of the best example of middle ages and renaissance architecture and urban life, you’ll have also the opportunity to do some tasting in the picturesque wine cellars lacated in the underground tunnels that once were Etruscan Tombs.
The Tour continue to the wineries of Montalcino – another typical Medieval Tuscan hill town – where the” Brunello di Montalcino” wine, nowadays the most famous Italian wine, is produced.
Once there we’ll have an included tour of the Casato prime Donne wine-factory – the most rewarded wine producer in the area – where we’ll learn about the making of the wine while strolling throught the cellar surround by wooden barrels. Finally we’ll also do a wine-tasting of several of their wines and a tasting of the typical Tuscan cold cuts, cheeses and Bruschettas, that you,ll prepare yourselves with their other famous product: the Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
After, we’ll continue on to the Sant’Antimo Abbey, also included in the Unesco World Heritage. The Abbey dates back the year 781 A.D. and the first nucleous was built by Charlemagne. It is considered to be one of the finest example of Tuscan-Romanesque Architecture.
Our final stop today will be the town of Pienza. The most renown centre with the greatest artistic importance of the “Orcia Valley”. Known as the jewel of the renaissance architecture and nicknamed by many artists in the past as “The ideal city”.While wondering around, admiring the architectural and artistic wonders, you’ll have also the oopurtunity to sample the typcal product of the town of stores there: the Pecorino Cheese.
After the tour and some free time in Pienza, we’ll drive back to Rome where you will be left at your Hotel.
